SUMMARY:Williamson Art Gallery & Museum: Williamson Art Gallery & Museum: S
 pirits of Place Symposium
DESCRIPTION:\nSpirits Of Place Symposium\n\n£12\nBook tickets\n\nA day of
talks and presentations on the theme of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight’
s connections to Wirral and the North West\nAs part of the Material Matte
rs artists’ collective and co-operative’s Into The Wyld residency\,
Spirits of Place is an exciting one-day programme of talks and presentatio
ns. Exploring the connections between the region and the medieval poem Si
r Gawain and The Green Knight\, Spirits of Place brings together a wide r
ange of guest speakers across the fields of academia\, literature\, art an
d archaeology following an acclaimed first symposium held in Liverpool in
2016.&nbsp\;\n\nThe symposium will be led by writer John Reppion and featu
res presentations around the themes of the tale by leading scholars and wr
iters from across the UK including Associate Professor Silvia Battista\, D
 ee Dee Chainey\, Maria J. Pérez Cuervo\, Professor Stephen E. Harding\, P
rofessor Carolyne Larrington\, Mark Penman and Adam Scovell.\n\nStories ar
e embedded in the world around us\; in metal\, in brick\, in concrete\, in
wood\, and in the very earth beneath our feet. Our history surrounds us\
, and the tales we tell – true or otherwise – are always rooted in wha
t has gone before. The ‘spirits of place’ are the echoes of people\, o
f events\, and of ideas which have become imprinted upon a location.&nbsp\
;\n\nSpirits of Place speakers will delve deep into the incredibly rich f
olklore and history of the Gawain poet’s Wyldrenesse of Wyrale\, the No
rth West\, and beyond.\n\nMore about Into The Wyld\n\n
