 tations on the theme of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight’s connections t
 o Wirral and the North West\n\nAs part of the Material Matters artists’ 
 collective and co-operative’s Into The Wyld residency\, Spirits of Pla
 ce is an exciting one-day programme of talks and presentations. Exploring 
 the connections between the region and the medieval poem Sir Gawain and T
 he Green Knight\, Spirits of Place brings together a wide range of guest s
 peakers across the fields of academia\, literature\, art and archaeology f
 ollowing an acclaimed first symposium held in Liverpool in 2016.The sympos
 ium will be led by writer John Reppion and features presentations around t
 he themes of the tale by leading scholars and writers from across the UK i
 ncluding Associate Professor Silvia Battista\, Dee Dee Chainey\, Maria J. 
 Pérez Cuervo\, Professor Stephen E. Harding\, Professor Carolyne Larringt
 on\, Mark Penman and Adam Scovell.Stories are embedded in the world around
  us\; in metal\, in brick\, in concrete\, in wood\, and in the very earth 
 beneath our feet. Our history surrounds us\, and the tales we tell – tru
 e or otherwise – are always rooted in what has gone before. The ‘spiri
 ts of place’ are the echoes of people\, of events\, and of ideas which h
 ave become imprinted upon a location.Spirits of Place speakers will delve
  deep into the incredibly rich folklore and history of the Gawain poet’s
