RESISTANCE @ WILLIAMSON ART GALLERY AND MUSEUM (WIRRAL)\n 26 APRIL - 27 MAY 2023\n\n\n\n\nPart of the HOME project\n\nThis exhibit ion offers various interpretations of the concept of ‘Resistance’ by b ringing together the work of 3 different Ukrainian photographers.\n\nMykha ylo Palinchak had never covered military conflicts before but after the fu ll-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022\, he transformed his photographic pra ctices to record the atrocities committed by the Russian army and the resi stance of the Ukrainian people.\n\nAt this time\, Andrii Rachinskiy also t urned to the documentary genre\, recording the widespread practice of peop le painting over the road signs and toponyms to disorient the occupation a rmy.\n\nElena Subach’s project ‘Lamkist’ (Fragility) is aimed at the poetisation and monumentalisation of mundane and fragile ordinary things\ , a reflection on the often unnoticed artifacts of the everyday. It reveal s the presence of resistance in the coming together and coming apart of na tural and man-made objects.\n\nWilliamson Art Gallery and Museum exhibitio n is a part of HOME programme\, organised by Open Eye Gallery and comm issioned by Culture Liverpool for EuroFestival. Working together with Ukr ainian curators Viktoria Bavykina and Max Gorbatskyi (Ukrainian. Photograp hies) and partners in Liverpool City Region\, HOME reflects on the quest ion What does home mean?\n\nAn app\, designed by University of Liverpool team\, will lead the EuroFestival guests and Liverpool City Region locals to independent spaces to see Home-themed Ukrainian photography collections in 5 trails across the city region. The themes of the trails are Land\, M aking\, Liberty\, Resistance\, Settings. Williamson Art Gallery and Museum is the end point of the Resistance trail.\n\nWilliamson Art Gallery and M useum will also host an artwork by a contemporary Ukrainian photographer a nd a postcard for sale from the front desk – all profit will go to the  Hospitallers medical group\, an organisation focusing on sourcing and del ivering medical supplies for paramedics who save human lives in Ukraine.
