SUMMARY:Williamson Art Gallery & Museum: Williamson Art Gallery: Christine
Kowal Post: They Think They Are Fallen Angels
DESCRIPTION:Christine Kowal Post: They Think They Are Fallen Angels\nThursd
 ay 25th November 2022 – Saturday 25th February 2023\nWilliamson Art Ga
llery\, Birkenhead\n“They Think They Are Fallen Angels” by Christine K
owal Post is an exhibition about man’s place in nature and how we see ou
r relationship with the rest of the world.\nKowal Post’s work considers
the relationships we build with the natural world\, other creatures\, and
each other. We are comfortable with embracing our shared physiology with a
nimals\, and have never considered ourselves physically superior to other
members of the animal kingdom. Yet we cannot help looking for traits which
make us not just unique within nature\, but exceptional. So we imagine ou
rselves as intellectually exceptional\, disconnected from other beings and
with the right to dominion over nature.\nKowal Post’s carved wooden fig
ures explore where and how we fall short in this human aspiration to be li
ke ‘fallen angels’ akin to deities in the great chain of being.\nAbout
the artist:\nChristine Kowal Post makes sculptures and reliefs using trad
itional wood carving techniques. She has been working as an artist since t
 he 1970s in Liverpool\, North Wales\, the Netherlands\, and is currently b
ased in East Sussex. She was elected to the Royal Cambrian Academy in 2005
and the Royal Society of Sculptors in 2014. ‘Wolfpack’ was exhibited
 at the 2019 Venice Biennale.
