SUMMARY:Walker Art Gallery: Walker Art Gallery: Claire Partington at the Wa
 lker
DESCRIPTION:Claire Partington at the Walker\n01 Jun 2022—Until November 2
022\n\nSee Claire Partington's work on display in room 5 inspired by the W
alker’s collections\n\nLondon-based ceramic artist Claire Partington is
showing at the Walker for the first time. The Walker’s collections have
inspired this major new commission\, presented by the Contemporary Art Soc
iety.\n\nCreating a strong link to the North West\, the catalyst was the o
il painting “Mr and Mrs William Atherton” by Arthur Devis (1712-1787).
Partington expands the domestic scene\, creating a thought-provoking\, ea
rthenware figure group. The new work is on display with historic ceramics
from our collections\, which inspired it.\n\nThe artist has also loaned tw
o stunning new sculptures to the Walker. These link to one of the gallery
’s most popular paintings\, “Echo and Narcissus”\, by John William W
aterhouse (1849-1917). Referencing traditional ceramic forms\, Partington
 re-imagines the story for our times.\nPhoto: © Claire Partington\, What i
