SUMMARY:Walker Art Gallery: Walker Art Gallery: Charles Shannon and Charles
  Ricketts
DESCRIPTION:Charles Shannon and Charles Ricketts\n18 May - 30 September 202
1\nWalker Art Gallery\n\n--\n\nA new display at the Walker Art Gallery spo
tlights the work and relationship of Charles Shannon (1863-1937) and Charl
es Ricketts (1866-1931). Four artworks - one painting\, two delicate drawi
ngs and one lithograph - explore some of the people\, ideas and themes tha
t influenced their work.\n\nShannon and Rickett met at art school as teena
gers. They lived and worked together for more than fifty years. Although t
hey never identified themselves as a homosexual couple\, they were undoubt
edly deeply committed to each other and created work which suggests their
rejection of the confines of Victorian society.\n\nFrom complex female cha
racters to a study for a Biblical tale of morality and judgment\, the sele
ct display reflects not only on their creative partnership but also the ar
tistic and forward-thinking circles the artists moved in.
