SUMMARY:Victoria Gallery & Museum: Victoria Gallery & Museum: Garstang Fest
ival Open Day - Young Archaeologists Stone Tools Research Team
DESCRIPTION:Free\n\n&gt\;&gt\; REGISTER &lt\;&lt\;\n\nThe Garstang Festival
of Archaeology\, Classics and Egyptology is a celebration of the Universi
ty of Liverpool Department and Garstang Museum past and present. For the f
irst time\, the Department is fully opening its doors to the public\, givi
ng people the opportunity to learn about and participate in the exciting r
esearch being carried out here within ACE.\n\nYoung Archaeologists Stone T
ools Research Team\n\nMost of the stone tools you see in museums or hear a
bout on TV have names that suggest we know how they were used. In many cas
es\, these names were created in the 19th century and just based on simila
rities the stone tools had with familiar modern ones. As archaeologists\,
we have inherited these names and many assumptions about how they were use
d.\n\nWhat if we are wrong? What if we get some fresh eyes and agile young
minds to think about it? We need you to join our research team. With a la
b coat on and a microscope in front of you\, your task will be to examine
a range of Stone Age tools and to tell us what you think they were used fo
r by our ancestors. Remember we only want fresh eyes for this investigatio
n – archaeology professors need not apply.\n\nHand to Handle Exhibition
Tour\n\nFollowing your investigation\, get a guided tour of the Hand to Ha
ndle Exhibition by Professor Larry Barham and have the opportunity to ask
questions about the exhibit to the lead excavator himself.\n\nWhile aimed
at children and teenagers this activity is fun for all the family.\n\nDura
tion: 45 minutes\n\nPlease note that photographs and footage will be taken
throughout Garstang Festival of Archaeology\, Classics and Egyptology. Th
ese will be used by the University for marketing and publicity in our publ
ications\, on our website and in social media or any third party publicati
on. Please contact the event organiser if you have any concerns or if you
 wish to be exempted from this activity.\n\n&nbsp\;
