SUMMARY:Victoria Gallery & Museum: Victoria Gallery & Museum: Garstang Fest
ival Open Day - Young Archaeologists Stone Tools Research Team
DESCRIPTION:Free\n\nThe Garstang Festival of Archaeology\, Classics and Egy
ptology is a celebration of the University of Liverpool Department and Gar
stang Museum past and present. For the first time\, the Department is full
y opening its doors to the public\, giving people the opportunity to learn
about and participate in the exciting research being carried out here wit
hin ACE.\n\nYoung Archaeologists Stone Tools Research Team\n\nMost of the
stone tools you see in museums or hear about on TV have names that suggest
we know how they were used. In many cases\, these names were created in t
he 19th century and just based on similarities the stone tools had with fa
miliar modern ones. As archaeologists\, we have inherited these names and
many assumptions about how they were used.\n\nWhat if we are wrong? What i
f we get some fresh eyes and agile young minds to think about it? We need
you to join our research team. With a lab coat on and a microscope in fron
t of you\, your task will be to examine a range of Stone Age tools and to
tell us what you think they were used for by our ancestors. Remember we on
ly want fresh eyes for this investigation – archaeology professors need
not apply.\n\nHand to Handle Exhibition Tour\n\nFollowing your investigati
on\, get a guided tour of the Hand to Handle Exhibition by Professor Larry
Barham and have the opportunity to ask questions about the exhibit to the
lead excavator himself.\n\nWhile aimed at children and teenagers this act
ivity is fun for all the family.\n\nDuration: 45 minutes\n\nPlease note th
at photographs and footage will be taken throughout Garstang Festival of A
rchaeology\, Classics and Egyptology. These will be used by the University
for marketing and publicity in our publications\, on our website and in s
ocial media or any third party publication. Please contact the event organ
iser if you have any concerns or if you wish to be exempted from this acti
 vity.
