The beautiful interior of Liverpool's Victoria Gallery and Museum is a rich Aladdin's cave of decorative treasures and bo ld architectural features.\n\nIn this 1 day workshop we will use the amazi ng backdrop of the gallery as the starting point for creating original pat terns that capture the imagination! This workshop is Ideal for anyone who loves print and pattern and who would love to learn how to make their own designs. Creating patterns in an analogue way helps us to understand how r epeatable patterns work and you only need a good imagination to create som ething unique!\n\nI will provide paper and a range of materials for people to try out but it would be great if everyone can bring their preferred me diums\, and a sketch book.\n\nI can offer to have the patterns printed ont o fabric for an additional cost\, which would take 2-3 weeks and can be po sted out to anyone who is interested.\n\nI will introduce myself to the gr oup and share examples of my own pattern designs developed for brands in t he fashion industry. I will show inspirational images from traditional Vic torian tiles and decorative designs to Della Robbia ceramics and William M orris prints- all of which fit the aesthetic of the Victoria Gallery and M useum.\n\nThen we will take a walk and explore the rich interiors of the g allery and museum\, making sketches along the way and taking photos to ins pire our own original designs.\n\nWe will use our photos\, sketches and in spiration images to develop our own original artworks. We will try out var ious mediums / motifs from our inspiration before deciding on a design to develop further.\n\n---Lunch Break---\n\nAfter lunch\, we will develop our artworks into a seamless repeat tile by cutting our design horizontally\, flipping the design and filling in the gaps. Repeating this on the vertic al until we have a design which wraps around. At the end of the session we will end up with a handmade repeat pattern. This design could be then dev eloped into a pattern to be printed on fabrics\, wallpaper etc.\n\nTo end\ , we will share our completed designs with the group\, in a mini exhibitio n.\n\nThis workshop is designed to give confidence in designing patterns f rom scratch\, to use your imagination and the beautiful surroundings of th e Victoria Gallery and Museum to create an original design of your own.\n\ nTutor: Katie Tyson\n\nKatie is a Wirral based illustrator and fabric prin t designer. She creates hand-painted watercolour illustrations\, which ado rn printed textiles\, cards and personalised goods.
