This workshop is Ideal for anyone who loves pr int and pattern and who would love to learn how to make their own designs. Creating patterns in an analogue way helps us to understand how repeatabl e patterns work and you only need a good imagination to create something u nique!\n\nI will provide paper and a range of materials for people to try out but it would be great if everyone can bring their preferred mediums\, and a sketch book.\n\nI can offer to have the patterns printed onto fabric for an additional cost\, which would take 2-3 weeks and can be posted out to anyone who is interested.\n\nI will introduce myself to the group and share examples of my own pattern designs developed for brands in the fashi on industry. I will show inspirational images from traditional Victorian t iles and decorative designs to Della Robbia ceramics and William Morris pr ints- all of which fit the aesthetic of the Victoria Gallery and Museum.\n \nThen we will take a walk and explore the rich interiors of the gallery a nd museum\, making sketches along the way and taking photos to inspire our own original designs.\n\nWe will use our photos\, sketches and inspiratio n images to develop our own original artworks. We will try out various med iums / motifs from our inspiration before deciding on a design to develop further.\n\n---Lunch Break---\n\nAfter lunch\, we will develop our artwork s into a seamless repeat tile by cutting our design horizontally\, flippin g the design and filling in the gaps. Repeating this on the vertical until we have a design which wraps around. At the end of the session we will en d up with a handmade repeat pattern. This design could be then developed i nto a pattern to be printed on fabrics\, wallpaper etc.\n\nTo end\, we wil l share our completed designs with the group\, in a mini exhibition.\n\nTh is workshop is designed to give confidence in designing patterns from scra tch\, to use your imagination and the beautiful surroundings of the Victor ia Gallery and Museum to create an original design of your own.\n\nTutor: Katie Tyson\n\nKatie is a Wirral based illustrator and fabric print design er. She creates hand-painted watercolour illustrations\, which adorn print ed textiles\, cards and personalised goods.
