SUMMARY:Victoria Gallery & Museum: Victoria Gallery & Museum: Before Egypt
DESCRIPTION:Discover life Before Egypt at major new exhibition\nDiscover li
fe in Egypt before the pyramids and mummies at a major new Victoria Galler
y &amp\; Museum exhibition\, featuring internationally important collectio
ns of Predynastic Egyptian and Nubian artefacts from the University of Liv
erpool’s Garstang Museum of Archaeology.\nBefore Egypt delves into the
prehistoric past of Egypt and Nubia\, to explore the ways in which early a
rt\, culture and politics were influenced by the unique geography of the N
ile Valley.\nExhibition curator\, Dr Gina Criscenzo-Laycock said: “When
people think of Egypt they tend to think of pyramids and gold masks\, mumm
ies and animal headed gods\, but where did the people who created these wo
nders come from?\n“Who was Neith-hotep\, the first woman in the world wh
ose name survives to this day? Was she a queen\, or was she Egypt’s firs
t Pharaoh?\n“This exhibition is an exciting opportunity to talk about ho
w we interpret ancient evidence\, and invites visitors to examine their ow
n preconceptions and preferences.”\nMany of the artefacts showcased\, so
me dating from as early as 7\,000 years ago\, have never previously been o
n public display.\nThe exhibition culminates with the beginning of the Pha
raonic Age in around 3000BC.\nIt includes artefacts and objects in the Gar
stang collection that were found in the tomb of Neith-hotep\, which sugges
t this remarkable woman may have been more than ‘just’ a Queen.\nThe s
how is supplemented by loans of key objects from other UK museums.\nBefore
Egypt opens at the Victoria Gallery &amp\; Museum on May 11 and runs unt
il October 31 2019. Entry is free. \nTo find out more\, please visit htt
