SUMMARY:Victoria Gallery & Museum: Victoria Gallery & Museum: ARRIVALS/DEPA
RTURES an exhibition by Fion Gunn
DESCRIPTION:Victoria Gallery &amp\; Museum: ARRIVALS/DEPARTURES an exhibiti
 on by Fion Gunn\n30/07/2022 – 23/12/22\nOpen Tuesday – Saturday\, 10am
  – 5pm\nIrish diaspora artist Fion Gunn explores themes of global migrat
ion and displacement through paintings\, sculpture and audio-visual instal
lation.  She is currently artist-in-residence at the Institute of Irish S
tudies and her exhibition is supported by Arts Council England.\nA key the
me in the artist’s work is displacement\, whether it be temporary and en
riching or chronic and distressing. Perhaps more than ever\, the reality o
f living on a knife-edge of political and environmental catastrophe is bei
ng realised around the globe. Gunn incorporates the visual language of mig
ration\, conflict\, and generational trauma into her work\, begging us to
ask “what does the experience of living mean for us both as individuals
and as a global society?\nHarry Liu\, Editor in Chief of ArtZip Magazine\,
wrote of her work that “even when the images are sorrowful or difficult
\, they still give a vision of hope to the viewer”.\nAs a port city stee
ped in industrial history and by-water migration\, Liverpool is the ideal
home for this body of work\, and has been written into the core of the exh
ibition’s goals and outreach. Ports acting as literal and metaphorical e
ntrances and exits make appearances throughout Gunn’s portfolio.\nFrom C
ork to Shanghai\, Dubai to Alexandria\, Gunn explores what it means to tra
vel\, its impact on memory\, its historical weight\, and its power to heal
or corrupt us. Globalism in terms of commercial trade but also human expe
riential exchange\, is at the core of these works.\n\nWith a portfolio spa
 nning painting\, collage\, sculpture\, installation\, performance and VR\
, Gunn’s practice is constantly evolving to match the ebbs and flows of
  her subject matter.\n\nEncompassing panel discussions\, public workshops\
, an immersive digital installation\, an AR pop-up trail\, and guided tou
rs\, Gunn’s vision is to bring her art and its satellite discussions to
as many people - and in as meaningful a way - as possible.\nFor more inf
ormation please visit the Victoria Gallery &amp\; Museum website
