SUMMARY:Unity Theatre: Unity Theatre: Exhibition - Natures Way
DESCRIPTION:Private View: Thursday 8 October 2015\, 17.30 - 19.30\nExhibiti
 on runs Friday 9 October - Saturday 31 October 2015\n\nFeaturing nature-ba
sed photography by Liverpool artists Colin Serjent and Jane Groves plus ab
stract nature-based paintings by Liverpool artist Carlee Graham.\n\nUnity
 Theatre\, Hope Place\, Liverpool L1 9BG\nOpen Mon-Sat 12.00 - 18.00\nFree
 admission.\nTelephone: 077 5952 5075\n\nThe Unity Theatre are staging an e
xhibition of striking and sometimes abstract nature-based photographs and
paintings by three Liverpool artists during October.\n\nIt features the ph
otographs of Colin Serjent and Jane Groves\, taken in Liverpool and Mersey
side\, while Carlee Graham will be showing large nature-based abstract pai
ntings.\n\n"I particularly like taking my photographs in the spring and su
mmer\, using azure coloured skies to help emphasise the colour patterns an
d textures in my pictures\," said Serjent\, who has shown his work in the
USA\, Germany and various parts of England.\n\n"This preference for strong
natural light helps me achieve the desired effects in my compositions. Ma
ny of the photographs\, often taken close-up to the subject matter\, are o
ften abstract in appearance."\n\nSerjent's subject matters include multi-c
oloured clusters of leaves\, trees\, plants\, and other forms of distincti
ve and unusual looking natural habitats.\n\nHis portfolio of work can be s
een on his photography website www.abstractway.co.uk\n\n"Nature is somethi
ng we don't always see\," remarked Groves. "We look around and take for gr
anted the sights we see before us.\n\n"Images provide us with a space to s
ee what we would normally scan and discount from our minds. Capturing the
here and now stalls our fleeting glance and gives us the opportunity to se
e these images\, and for us to view those sights we tend to disregard as u
nremarkable.\n\n"We are surrounded by water\," she added\,"yet this doesn'
t often find a place in our consciousness....the river and the sea.\n\n"Na
ture is remarkable\, it's nature's way. My images are a chance to see\, he
ld in time\, as they are when we passed them by. No camera tricks\, no dec
eption\, the images are as they were when I first laid my eyes upon them."
\n\nGraham's paintings depict various natural elements\, including earth\,
fire\, water. "The force and fragility of nature inviting the viewer to r
econnect with the aesthetic of the world outside." she remarked.
