 :\n\nThe course will cover a range of things including gathering your own 
 reference material\, testing out ideas and ultimately walking away at the 
 end of the 10 weeks with a painting you would be happy to hang on your wal
 l. Although centred around oil painting\, the course will involve a variet
 y of media\, including charcoal and acrylic paint.\n\nThe classes will inc
 lude a combination of presentations to the group\, demonstrations and indi
 vidual tuition. Suitable for beginners and more experienced artists who wi
 sh to develop their skills.\n\nWeek 1/2 - Introduction to Landscape\, Comp
 osition &amp\; Colour:\n\n 	How to create a strong and balanced compositio
 n – learning the importance of tonal arrangement in creating a balanced 
 composition\n 	Linear perspective\, eye lines i.e how the eye travels acro
 ss the piece\n 	Tri-tone charcoal drawings and black and white acrylic pai
 nting\n 	Japanese inspired Notan drawings (black &amp\;white)\n 	Using acr
 ylic paint\, simplifying a landscape into masses of colour – no detail\n
 \n*Important to bring a collection of printed out reference photos\, some 
 colour &amp\; some monochromatic.\n\nWeek 2/3 - Colour Theory\n\n 	Colour 
 wheel – science of colour and the interaction of colour – Josef Albers
 \n 	Colour mixing – how to create or match any colour\n 	Creating colour
  swatches/samples\n\nWeek 3/4 - Gathering reference material\n\n 	Sketchin
 g in the landscape\n 	Photos\n\nWeek 4/5 – Intro to Oil Paint\n\n 	Premi
 xing colours – arranging your palette\n 	Begin a landscape painting from
  photo references and sketches in the landscape – focusing on basic shap
 es and colours\, no detail\n 	Wet on wet techniques\n\nWeek 6/7 – Plein 
 air painting\, outdoor painting – for those who have field easels or are
  happy to sit down with a table easel when there’s the opportunity to pa
 int outdoors. Alternatively students may continue to develop skills indoor
 s.\n\nWeek 8/9/10 – Painting a landscape from start to finish in studio\
 , using samples and references acquired previously over the course.\n\nTut
 or: Jacob Gourley\n\nJacob Gourley is a Liverpool based artist specialisi
 ng in oil painting. An active member of The Royal Standard Studios\, he ha
 s exhibited in a number of both group and solo shows. Jacob graduated in F
 ine Art from the University of Gloucestershire in 2017\, having been award
 ed a month scholarship to study in the British School in Rome during his s
 econd year. He also won first prize at the Wirral Society of Arts Open Exh
 ibition 2019. For the past 18 months\, Jacob has turned his skills to teac
