SHUT DOWN is Vincent Dance T heatre’s thought-provoking\, timely new work that investigates the press ures\, contradictions and confusions of being a man. SHUT DOWN explore s gender fluidity\, absent fatherhood\, male depression\, pornography and misogyny.\n\nThe voices of the young people in the work are urgent and mov ing: they show us\, in no uncertain terms\, what needs to change. SHUT DOW N is the result of a collaboration between VDT and Brighton based AudioAct ive (http://audioactive.org.uk)\, a music charity working with young peopl e and contemporary urban culture. Five young people from AudioActive creat ed original material for the production\, with 15- year old Eben’ Flo’ s passionate spoken word pieces\, Marshall Mandiangu’s songs and Matt\n\ nMcLaughlin’s rap threading through the work\, underscored by Jules Maxw ell’s evocative soundtrack.\n\nCathy Butterworth\, Director and programm er for Arts Centre\, Edge Hill University says “I am so proud to be brin ging this show to Ormskirk\, the only performance in the North West\, it ’s an important work for all to see and especially young men. Dance The atre at its best and a must see”\n\nDiscussing SHUT DOWN on BBC Radio 4 ’s Woman’s Hour in 2017\, Charlotte Vincent said: “Young men are str uggling with isolation\, feeling lonely\, absent father figures and not kn owing where to go with their problems. We know too that pornography is bei ng seen by boys at ever younger ages and how this is affecting their psych ological wellbeing and their notion of what young women are for them. With SHUT DOWN\, we’re playing with archetypes and behaviours to represent t he internal and external struggle men face to find a role in contemporary society” \n\nDirected by ‘one of the most important feminist artists w orking in Britain today’ (The Observer) SHUT DOWN explores the spectrum of modern day masculinity and investigates the pressures\, contradictions and confusions of being a man.\n\nVincent Dance Theatre’s first ever all male production is timely\, humorous and highly charged ‘political and poetic dance theatre’ (London Dance)\, from one of the UK’s most risk- taking and rigorous choreographers.\n\nThe work offers not only dance but\ , film\, spoken work and rap with real-life testimony.\n\nAdult supervisio n for under 14’s is advised due to strong language and adult themes.\n\n ‘Vincent identifies\, with forensic precision\, the way men react to cha nging times’\n**** The Observer\n\n‘As a 22-year old man growing up in the world\, I cannot thank you enough for reflecting a mirror back to me during my journey and struggle to understand manhood today’ Audience Mem ber\, November 2017\n\nTickets for the show are now on sale via the The Ar ts Centre Box Office\nbox office\nedgehill.ac.uk/artscentre\nTuesday 19th March 7:30pm\nTickets: £10 / £8 concessions\n\nBox Office Details\n01695 584480 (24 hour answerphone)\nEmail: boxoffice@edgehill.ac.uk\nFacebook: TheArtsCentreEHU\nTwitter: @ArtsCentreEHU\nInstagram: artscentreEHU ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.artinliverpool.com/wp-content/upload s/2019/03/shut-down-vincent-dance-theatre.jpg CATEGORIES:Performance LOCATION:The Arts Centre\, Edge Hill University\, St Helens Road\, Ormskirk \, L39 4QP\, Ormskirk\, United Kingdom GEO:53.559683;-2.87385 X-APPLE-STRUCTURED-LOCATION;VALUE=URI;X-ADDRESS=Edge Hill University\, St H elens Road\, Ormskirk\, L39 4QP\, Ormskirk\, United Kingdom;X-APPLE-RADIUS =100;X-TITLE=The Arts Centre:geo:53.559683,-2.87385 END:VEVENT BEGIN:VTIMEZONE TZID:Europe/London X-LIC-LOCATION:Europe/London BEGIN:STANDARD DTSTART:20181028T010000 TZOFFSETFROM:+0100 TZOFFSETTO:+0000 TZNAME:GMT END:STANDARD END:VTIMEZONE END:VCALENDAR
