SUMMARY:The Arts Centre: The Arts Centre EHU: Raising the Voice of the Rohi
 ngya
DESCRIPTION:Raising the Voice of the Rohingya\nFollowing on from the succes
s of Dr Shakur’s Festival of Ideas event\, ‘Who are the New Boat Peopl
e’\, and coinciding exhibition from photojournalist Fojit Sheikh Babu\,
Reverb has invited a collection of local artists to demonstrate some of th
e lost voices of the Rohingya. From transcribed folk songs\, to translatio
ns of poems from the camps this will be a dynamic  evening of music\, poe
try\, art\, film and discussion.\nAmnesty International describes the Rohi
ngya as “one of the most persecuted minorities in the world”. They hav
e fled from Myanmar to neighbouring Bangladesh\, with almost 60% of the re
fugees being children\, who are all now being faced with deportation\, eve
n though they remain stateless\, with uncertain futures. It has been obser
ved that there has been very little awareness of this catastrophic human d
isaster in the Western world.\nThe event  will feature performances from
Edge Hill University’s own Dr James Byrne\, (Senior Lecturer in Creative
Writing)\, Dr Joaquín Cortés\, (Senior Lecturer in Geology)\, Shehzar D
oja (Editor-in-Chief for The Luxembourg Review)\, International Musician a
nd Composer - Francisco Carrasco\, plus more.\nReverb 9: Raising the Voice
of the Rohingya will be held at The Arts Centre\, Ormskirk\, L39 4QP\, on
Monday 19th November at 7pm. The event is free and requires no booking.\n
For the full line-up and more information about this event please visit th
e Reverb website.\nTo learn more about the Rohingya and how to get involve
