Time(s): All Day
SWAP SHOP
27 JUNE – 1 JULY 2018 AT 10.00–18.00
What do we mean by value, worth and meaning?
Drop into Tate Exchange and share skills, ideas and stories in a pop-up SWAP SHOP, designed and built by students from the Birmingham School of Art.
Drawing on traditional notions of exchange, SWAP SHOP is not a platform where money changes hands, but rather objects, skills and ideas are swapped. The items that are in the “shop” will be objects, images, assemblages and zines made by students.
SWAP SHOP will exist over a four-day period at Tate Liverpool. For the first three days, the shop will be open for browsing and on the fourth day you are invited to come in with objects to SWOP for one of the objects in the shop.
SWAP SHOP creates an approachable and interactive platform that demonstrates how artistic processes and debate can inform exchanges between people centring on value. Bartering is an old method of exchange and is a system that has been used for centuries long before money was invented.
Drop in between 10.00 – 17.00 or join us for an in-conversation with guest speakers from 17.00 – 17.45 each day.
This project has been programmed by Birmingham City University, a Tate Exchange Associate, with support from Selfridges. SWAP SHOP will pop up again in September 2018 at Selfridges Birmingham.
