SHARING LANGUAGE

Sundays 15, 22 and 29 January 2017
10.00–16.00

FREE DROP-IN

Join language investigators, Quad Collective, for a series of workshops and activities about the words we see in art galleries. Participants can have their say by removing words from the art world vocabulary, creating new ones and discussing the impact and effect of what we read about art.

SHARING LANGUAGE: LANGUAGE BUFFET
Sunday 15 January 2017
10.00–16.00

Dismantle and reconstruct the vocabulary we use to talk about art in the first of this series of events by Quad Collective. Using words gleaned from gallery guides and other institutional texts, join us in hacking and editing a list of words to create a new collaborative language for art.

SHARING LANGUAGE: THE VOCABULARY CLINIC
Sunday 22 January 2017
10.00–16.00

Join Quad Collective for the second event in the Sharing Language series and drop into the vocabulary clinic in Tate Exchange. Visitors can share their opinions on artwork labels, introduction texts and published articles. This clinic will critically look at the language used in art galleries and museums followed by a discussion about the relationship between language and art.

SHARING LANGUAGE: FOCUS GROUP
Sunday 29 January 2017
10.00–16.00

Join Quad Collective for the final in this series of events with a drop-in discussion and final edit of a new proposed art language. Looking back at words, thoughts and ideas shared in previous events, this discussion will delve deeper into the effects and impact of what we read about art. The new collaborative vocabulary produced in Tate Exchange will be put together in a manual designed for future galleries and museums.

Programmed in association with Quad Collective.
