SUMMARY:Staacks: Staacks: ‘Transient Light’ by Julie Lawrence
DESCRIPTION:‘Transient Light’ by Julie Lawrence\n\nThis body of work ex
plores the transient relationship between light\, matter and movement. Res
ponding to the coastal landscape\, I strive to frame an ever changing coas
tline\, and evoke memories\, visions and feelings associated with the flee
ting and ephemeral nature of place.  Inspired by incidental and often mag
ical moments of light\, I invite the viewer to find a still centre and qui
et psychological territory and an inner sense of place and time.\n\nRooted
in the painting language of Romanticism\, I respond initially very instin
ctively through pastel drawings and then develop these slowly and intuitiv
ely into oil paintings. Hovering between representation and abstraction\,
there is a sense of liminality which runs throughout my work\, bordering t
he threshold between nostalgic association and something un known.\n\nMy b
ackground qualifications in art include a BA (first class) honours degree
and I hold a Masters degree in Fine Art from the University of Chester. I
have exhibited widely across the U.K including The Pastel Society at the M
all Galleries in London\, and I was the North of England regional prize wi
nner at the National Open Art Competition in London.\n\nStaacks\, 83 Banks
