SUMMARY:Staacks: Staacks: 'Light and Land' - Elaine Adams
DESCRIPTION:Open evening Friday 4 March 2016\, 19.30 - 21.30 - All Welcome!
 \nExhibition runs from Tuesday 1 March - Wednesday 30 March 2016\n\nElaine
Adams\nBA Hons Graphic Design\n\nThe broad sweep of a landscape or coastl
ine and the fleeting effects of light on colour impacts strongly on my wo
rk. I endeavour to capture this using the visual and highly tactile natur
e of natural materials to present the viewer with a connection to the spe
ctacular landscape found within and around the British Isles.\n\nThis bod
y of work\, ‘Light and Land’\, draws on the moorland and coastal area
s around Britain and emphasizes the consequences of varying light. The sh
ift between bright and overcast skies impacts on the choice of colour\, c
omposition\, and textural materials selected to create an atmosphere refl
ecting the landscape before me.\n\nWorking initially in sketchpads\, I set
out to record the untamed landscape with initial drawings and colour ref
erences on site\, then developing the work back at my studio using Britis
h and Norwegian pure wools\, flax\, linen and silks.
