SUMMARY:The Serving Library: The Serving Library: Loose Associations Lectur
 e: Ryan Gander
DESCRIPTION:Jointly programmed by The Serving Library and Liverpool Biennia
l:\nLoose Associations Lecture: Ryan Gander\n\nPlease join us on THURSDAY
16 NOVEMBER from 5–6.30pm for the inaugural screening of one of the
Loose Associations Lectures by Chester-born artist Ryan Gander\, newly ass
embled here in the form of a four-channel video. Gander is one of the conf
irmed Liverpool Biennial 2018 artists and will be present to introduce the
video beforehand\, answer questions afterwards\, and possibly talk over t
he top of it throughout.\n\nThe lecture at the heart of the video consists
of a series of loosely associated anecdotes on often overlooked or underc
over aspects of art\, design and language. Subjects range from ‟desire l
ines” to the NatWest logo\; from Ryan’s Aunt Deva to Homer Simpson\; f
rom The Knowledge of London’s cab drivers to Star Trek’s Klingon langu
age. Two loosely-connected versions of the lecture series have been delive
red to countless audiences over the years\, and both were originally publi
shed in The Serving Library's predecessor journal\, ‟Dot Dot Dot.”\n\n
The bar will be open\, serving for a modest fee. The event will start at
5pm promptly so that the audience is able to attend the opening of the ne
w Tate Liverpool exhibitions the same evening.\n\nAs usual\, the event is
FREE but on this occasion BOOKING IS REQUIRED\, here:\n\nhttps://www.event
