 n\n2:35pm - Questions\n\nAbout Alex Russell\n\nAlex Russell combines hand-
made content with digital technology to make one-off prints and commission
ed art. Alex develops algorithms that influence each other’s behaviour\,
governed by systems such as cellular automata to determine the characteri
stics of the content. The generative process works in two stages\, using t
he biological concepts of genotypes and phenotypes to create a plan of the
print and then build it. He works in series\, each with its own themes\,
code and image library. Overarching everything is a conceptual approach to
pattern\, including design patterns (from software design) and pattern la
nguage (from architecture). Alex is intrigued by how traditions of arrangi
ng content can be expressed as a grammar\, taking the rich history of prin
t-making to a unique new place.\n\nCaptivated as a teenager by screen prin
ting\, Alex spent many years as a textile designer and lecturer. Fascinate
d by coding\, he began to explore the possibilities of generative systems
around 20 years ago\, later researching how digital fabric printers could
print ever-changing patterns. Since 2022\, he has focussed on fine art pri
nt-making and commissions\, enthralled by making original work in a space
bounded by art and science\, the hand-made and the digital.\n\nAbout Liver
pool Art Fair\n\nLiverpool Art Fair is an annual event\, aiming to showcas
 e a wide range of affordable original art by a plethora of local artists\;
providing a unique insight into the region’s creative talent and the op
portunity for everyone\, from seasoned collector to first time art buyer\,
to own their own piece of the Liverpool art world.\n\nPre-pandemic the ev
ent ran for eight years\, launching in May 2012 as part of the inaugural L
iverpool Art Month\, at the then brand new Camp and Furnace. In 2017\, we
relocated to the Pier Head\, in a purpose-built gallery constructed from
five shipping containers! In 2019 we took Liverpool Art Fair to Metquart
er\, where it ran for 80 consecutive days.\n\nIn 2023 we were delighted to
partner with the Royal Liver Building for the long-awaited return of th
e event\, and its unqualified success means we are back for 2024\, celebra
ting our 10th anniversary! In total we have welcomed over 55\,000 art
lovers to our events and showcased work by almost 2000 artists. Come a
long and experience the work of some of the region’s most talented visua
l artists\, and with prices starting at just £20 you won’t leave empt
 y handed!\n\nFind out more at liverpoolartfair.com\n\n\n\n\n\n
