SUMMARY:: Rendall Building: Screening of 'Without These Walls'
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, 8 June 2016\, 16:30 - 18:00\n\nWithout These walls\
n\nThe Housing Market Renewal pathfinder programme ran from 2002-2011. It
’s purpose was to "renew failing housing markets and reconnect them to r
egional markets"\, "improve neighbourhoods" and "encourage people to live
and work in these areas."\n\nThe second Heseltine Institute for Public Pol
icy and Practice seminar will centre around the screening of a short film
by Jayne Lawless and Janet Brandon about the experience of compulsory pu
rchase and demolition of homes in a ‘pathfinder’ neighbourhood.\n\nTh
e film shows the negative impact that ‘well-intentioned’ top down poli
cies can have on communities and supports claims that the HMR initiative h
as resulted only in unnecessary demolition\, loss of built heritage and po
or quality renovation.\n\nAudience discussion of the film and its implicat
ions with Jayne Lawless and Ronnie Hughes will follow.\n\nThe Double Negat
