SUMMARY:FACT: Rae-Yen Song 宋瑞渊: •~TUA~• 大眼 •~MAK~•
DESCRIPTION:Rae-Yen Song 宋瑞渊 draws on the flux and resilience of the
immigrant experience to reimagine the world. For this exhibition\, the gal
lery is transformed into a darkened abyss\, suspended somewhere between th
e deep sea and the skies above. Moving through this landscape\, Rae-Yen in
vites us to reconsider our connections to ecosystems\, ancestors\, and the
cosmos around us.\n\nThe exhibition title refers to a lost ancestor\, rem
embered only through family stories and myths\, who drowned at sea aged th
irteen in 1950s Singapore. Expanding on work shown at FACT in 2022\, the e
xhibition continues Rae-Yen's long-term exploration of family mythology\,
ecology and Daoist logics.\n\nAt its heart is a glowing pond\, home to a l
iving ecosystem of organic matter\, invertebrates\, and microscopic life.
Cameras capture movements within the water\, which control the environmen
t’s shifting lights and sounds. Artefacts crafted from various materials
  - including textiles\, glass\, ceramic\, willow\, hair and cat fur - drif
t throughout the space. Through the careful process of making these offeri
ngs\, Rae-Yen creates a tangible\, personal heritage while paying reverenc
e to ancestors past and future\, human and more-than-human.\n\nGuided by D
aoist ways of worlding\, Rae-Yen encourages us to see ancestry and history
as something living rather than fixed. •~TUA~• 大眼 •~MAK~• i
s a cosmology of entanglements and connections between the seen and the un
seen: microorganisms\, vibrations\, energies\, ancestral spirits. By weavi
ng human experience into this wider cosmos\, we are invited to expand our
idea of ‘the living’ and rethink our position within it.\n\n\n\nThe ex
 hibition •~TUA~• 大眼 •~MAK~• is co-commissioned by TRAMWAY\
 , Glasgow and FACT\, Liverpool.\n\nThe exhibition includes animations co-c
ommissioned by Film and Video Umbrella (FVU)\, Tramway\, FACT\, and Advanc
ed Research Centre at the University of Glasgow\, and supported by Thinkin
g Culture\, a cultural programme from the University of Glasgow’s School
of Culture &amp\; Creative Arts.\n\nThe sculpture song dynasty ○○

l 2025.\n\nTextile printing was supported by Print Clan’s Artist in Resi
dence Programme (2024) at Print Clan CIC\, supported by the National Lotte
ry through Creative Scotland.\n\nTramway is supported by Glasgow Life and
Creative Scotland. FVU and FACT are supported using public funding by Arts
