SUMMARY:: Queens Square: A City Soundwalk - Listening to the built environm
 ent
DESCRIPTION:A City Soundwalk - Listening to the built environment\n\nTime:
 December 14th 15.30\nDuration: 60 mins - 90 mins approx\nFee: £2.00 on th
e day\n\nMeet: Meet at the entrance to the `Queens Square Centre` in Queen
 s Square\, Hood Street Liverpool L1 1RG\, which is a Merseytravel Travel C
entre.\n(Circus tent-like building next to where the buses are.)\n\nRoute:
Includes insides and outsides\, the social world and the commercial world
.\nWhat does pedestrianisation sound like?\n\nThe general election is over
\, and it is coming on Christmas.\nStep back\, watch\, listen and observe
the city in action.\nListen to the built environment.\n\nA Sonic Gaze even
t.\nWhat\, Why\, Who?\n\nA soundwalk is a practice: it is walking without
talking\, focussing on the sound around\, focussing on being there rather
than talking about it. A slow soundwalk takes you to undiscovered places:
 means of transport\, your senses.\n\nSessions usually consist of 3 x 20 mi
nutes sessions with light intermission to share thoughts and reflections a
nd then move on. The session is led by Phil Morton: acoustic ecologist\, w
ho has delivered soundwalks and listening projects in many and varied sett
ings.\n\n“When was the last time you went somewhere just to hear the sou
nds there? Whether experienced as private meditation or as collective sile
nce SOUNDWALKS refresh your ears and reset your sensual awareness to where
you are\, live or work\n\nAll welcome: avoid noisy bags and clothing\, br
ing a friend and you won’t have to explain the journey to them later! Su
rprise yourself”\n\nA slow soundwalk will be of interest to\;\n• Music
ians (as it involves listening to a sequence of sounds)\n• To recording
artists (as one needs to appreciate the relationship between background an
d foreground sound\, for example)\n• For electronic musicians (as it rel
ates to the way timbres interact)\n• To planners and architects (as the
sound is part of the atmosphere of a place and affects social responses).\
n• Sound artist - (as an act of attentive listening as part of a prepara
tory methodology)\n• Everyone and anyone\, (as an act of `ear cleaning`\
, a space of time to slow down and focus on the reality of sound in the pr
esent\, to reset\, refresh and re-engage)\n\nTop tip: Wrap up and protect
oneself from the elements\, make a note of Phil Morton’s mobile as a pre
caution and back up in case you cannot find the meet up/start point or you
r are late.\n\nPresented by Sonic Gaze Group\,\nPhil Morton: Mob 079995185
