SUMMARY:Victoria Gallery & Museum: Play of Light: A Display of Darkness and
  Illumination
DESCRIPTION:This small display shows how using the play of light against da
rkness\, to add drama and mood to art\, was applied by British artists of
the late Georgian and Victorian eras.\nUsing the play of light against dar
kness to add drama and mood has been a feature of art since the Renaissanc
e.\n\nSome artists specialised in atmospheric moonlit scenes\, which becam
e known as nocturnes after the musical term. They can be seen as part of t
he Romanticism movement\, a way of expressing emotions and evoking ambienc
 e through art\, literature and music.\n\nArtists featured include J.M.W. T
urner\, Joseph Wright of Derby\, John Atkinson Grimshaw and David Roberts.
\nLocation\nYou'll find this exhibition in Gallery 4.
