SUMMARY:Open Eye Gallery: Open Eye Gallery: Open Source 28: Sam Patton - Ro
om to Breathe @ Digital Window Gallery
DESCRIPTION:OPEN SOURCE 28: SAM PATTON – ROOM TO BREATHE @ DIGITAL WINDOW
  GALLERY\n10 APRIL - 18 MAY 2024\n\n\n\n\nOur Open Source #28 artist is Sa
m Patton\, whose work is showing alongside Casey Orr’s solo show ‘Satu
rday Town’. Sam’s work serves as a moment of pause and reflection amid
st the often vibrant and hyper-sexual portrayal of queer bodies in exhibit
ed media. The digital exhibition is showing for the duration of the Saturd
ay Town show thoughout the gallery space and on the exterior wall of our b
 uilding.\n\n“Room to Breathe (2021 – 2023) is a celebration of the qu
iet moments of joy felt by trans and non-binary people. The individuals fe
atured welcome us into their worlds\, they create\, grow and share\, offer
ing an alternative to traditional narratives of trans life. Collaborativel
y made\, the portraits reflect the intimacy and trust invoked by the subje
ct-maker relationship. The project centers on the humanity of the particip
ants\, representing them on their own terms. The images prompt the viewer
into a moment of pause\, in which to examine their own empathy and assumpt
ions. Often fatigued with an increasingly hostile political landscape\, th
ese people are a testament to the resilience of a community that continues
to flourish.”\n\nSam Patton is a photographer living and working in Bel
fast. Their current practice explores queer identity through collaborative
photography. Their work centres on providing a visual space for people to
express their authentic selves. They achieved an MFA in Photography from
Ulster University in 2023 and is currently a studio member at Some Studio\
, a queer arts space in Belfast. Their work can be found on their website
  sampatton.co.uk and Instagram.\n\n\n
