SUMMARY:Open Eye Gallery: Open Eye Gallery (Online): Save Some Space: Saad
Shaffi (24 Kitchen Street)\, Chris Torpey (Bido Lito)
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\nnighttime economies\, nocturnal cultures and the civic
fabric.\n\n\nBOOK HERE\n\n\n\n\nAcross the country\, many music venues are
involved in embittered struggles between property developers and planning
departments on one hand\, and partygoers and DJs on the other. These spac
es form a vital part of the civic fabric\, offering time and space for oft
en marginalised communities\, yet they continue to be closed down in redev
elopment initiatives that favour the short-term profits of unsustainable l
uxury housing.\n\nLiverpool’s 24 Kitchen Street is one such space\, a mu
lti-arts venue and club surrounded by encroaching developments: on 13th Au
gust co-owner Saad Shaffi will go in conversation with Chris Torpey (Bido
Lito) and Emma Warren (author of Make Some Space and Total Refreshment Cen
tre family member) to talk about nighttime economies\, nocturnal cultures
and the civic fabric.\n\nAll events are streamed to twitch.tv/openeyegalle
ry\, followed by a public chat on Open Eye Gallery’s Discord chat room c
ommunity. To join the Discord\, follow this link and download Discord on d
esktop or mobile: https://discord.gg/CqqC55h\n\nThis event is part of The
Time We Call Our Own\, an upcoming exhibition and series of online events
around nightlife\, identity\, and how photography shapes our sense of shar
ed experience\, led by Open Eye Gallery and supported by SEVENSTORE.\n\n
