SUMMARY:Open Eye Gallery: Open Eye Gallery: Culture Shifts Global: LOOK/17
DESCRIPTION:Culture Shifts Global \n6 APRIL - 18 JUNE 2017\n\n\n\n\nOur ex
hibition Culture Shifts Global is exploring the city and urbanism seen thr
ough outsiders eyes. In collaboration with the University of Salford we ar
e inviting Hong Kong photographers Luke Ching and Wong Wo Bik to make work
in Liverpool\, and supporting a British Hong Kong-born photographer\, Der
ek Man to revisit Hong Kong.\n\nThis programme is part of LOOK/17: Liverpo
ol International Photography Festival\, titled ‘Cities of Exchange: Live
 rpool/Hong Kong’.\n\nLuke Ching\n\n\nRoom 118\, Titanic Hotel\, Stanley
 Dock\, Regent Road\, Liverpool\, L30AN is a series of photographs created
during a 10-day residency in Liverpool in January 2017. Ching transformed
a newly refurbished hotel room into a pinhole camera capturing the histori
c dock area in transformation. A 200-year old warehouse is transformed int
o a modern hotel\, serving people and the city in a new way. Like a wareho
 use\, a hotel is transient by nature\, providing a short accommodation.\n\
nWo Bik Wong\n\n\nThe exhibition presents newly commissioned work made in
the Port of Liverpool building alongside interiors and buildings of Hong K
ong. Composite images of old colonial buildings are made to explore contin
uous shifts between dereliction and redevelopment towards a new identity.
Through the medium of photography\, Wong continues her journey of revealin
g cultural and artistic issues.\n\nDerek Man\n\n\nDerek is Hong Kong born
but has lived in London for the last 6 years. His project can be viewed fr
om the perspective of an expatriate returning to his homeland to record ho
w rapidly Hong Kong is changing. His work explores the housing landscape i
n Hong Kong – at once a basic human need and private imperative\, the ho
using issue is one that affects people in Hong Kong\, Liverpool and the wo
 rld over.\n\n\n\n\n\n
