 Los Caprichos images\, originally published by Francisco Goya on February 
 6th 1799.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBOOK HERE\n\nOpen Eye Gallery hosts the Liv
 erpool launch of THE CAPRICES\, a new poetry collection by James Byrne\, c
 orresponding with Francisco Goya’s Los Caprichos and published by Arc Pu
 blications. Poems to be read on the night\, images also available. Refresh

 hill.ac.uk\n\nBorn in England\, James Byrne is a leading international poe
 t\, editor and translator. His most recent poetry collections are The Capr
 ices (2019)\, Everything Broken Up Dances (Tupelo\, 2015)\, White Coins (A
 rc) and WITHDRAWALS (KFS\, 2019). Byrne received an MFA in Poetry from New
  York University\, where he was given a Stein Fellowship (‘Extraordinary
  International Scholar’). He was the Poet in Residence at Clare Hall\, U
 niversity of Cambridge. He lives near Liverpool where he is a Senior Lectu
 rer in Creative Writing at Edge Hill University.\n\nRenowned for his commi
 tment to international poetries and poetics\, Byrne’s Selected Poems (Po
 emas Escogidos) is published in Spanish by Buenos Aires Poetry\, translate
 d by Katherine M. Hedeen and Víctor Rodríguez Núñez. He has given poet
 ry readings across the world\, at festivals in countries such as Libya\, M
 yanmar\, Syria\, across Europe and the United States.\n\nOf Everything Bro
 ken Up Dances the American poet and translator Forrest Gander has written 
 that reading Byrne’s poetry is ‘like gulping firewater shots of the wo
 rld’: The poet John Kinsella wrote: ‘James Byrne is a phenomenon and B
 lood/Sugar is astonishing…He is a complete original.’\n\nNiall McDevit
 t has written of The Caprices as ‘a collaboration\, an illuminated text\
 , a setting of Goya to music. The poetic response is a tour de force wit
 hin the constraints of form and yet it moves with a mercury dash’.\n\nht
