SUMMARY:Open Eye Gallery: Online: The 'Tell it like it is' club
DESCRIPTION:The ‘Tell it like it is’ club:\nexperiment with photography
and writing!\n\nNo previous expertise needed: if you live or work in L1 o
r L8\, join Ian and Laura for six free\, monthly\, creative workshops star
ting from Saturday 17 October 2020 to March 2021.\n\nSign up here\n\nHow?\
n\nOur workshops will take place on Zoom and in person in Liverpool 1 and
8\, in small (socially distant and accessible) walking and talking groups.
\n\n All the workshops are free and you don't need to buy or bring anythi
ng – just an open mind\n In the spirit of networking\, collaboration an
d sharing\, and to get the best out of the club\, attendance to all worksh
ops is desirable\n You’ll need access to Zoom\n We’ll provide everyo
ne with a free single use film camera (processing and printing included)\n
We’ll provide everyone with a free notebook and pencil\n We’ll prov
ide a friendly and creative environment in which to talk\, make new images
and write new words.\n\nWe’ll celebrate our achievements in a group-dec
ided closing event in March 2021 (TBC)\, in collaboration with Open Eye Ga
llery.\n\nWhat?\n\nWhen you look at a photograph\, what do you see? What i
s valuable? What is present? What is missing?\n\nOur free creative worksho
ps will encourage you to share YOUR own stories\, in YOUR own words and im
ages\, in YOUR own way.\n\nWe’ll be discussing over 100 previously unsee
n photographs of Liverpool and taking new photographs on film\, using Ilfo
rd HP5 Plus 35mm Single Use Cameras\; we’ll be writing short texts and d
eveloping our storytelling skills.\n\nWe’ll be led by the group’s expe
riences and desires\, without any pre-formed expectations. No previous exp
ertise in photography or writing necessary: beginners and/or intermediate
level\, all welcome.\n\nWhere?\n\nOnline and in person along Ian’s old r
oute map in Liverpool 1 and 8 (see maps here).\n\nWhen?\n\nOur first meet-
up will be online on Saturday 17 October 2020\, 11am-12.30pm\, and then e
very third Saturday of the month until March 2021 (six workshops in total)
.\n\nIn our first Zoom creative workshop\, we will be talking about\, and
starting to write about\, existing images of Liverpool. No previous experi
ence necessary – just bring an open mind.\n\nWhy?\n\nWith support from O
pen Eye Gallery\, Writing on the Wall and Storylab\, the ‘Tell it like i
t is’ club invites the residents and workers of L1 and L8 to reflect on
100 previously unseen photographs of Liverpool\, and co-create new images
and creative/critical writing in response. As a group\, we will share our
own experiences about where we live\, in our own words\, in our own way.\n
\nLed by artist Ian Clegg and Open Eye Critical Writer-in-Residence Laura
Robertson\, we want to celebrate all the different ways that photography a
nd creative/critical writing can work together to tell new stories about w
here we live. Writing about photographs is a great way to learn how to wri
te\; it can connect us to others\, and to what’s around us.\n\nTaking in
spiration from ‘ethnomediaology’ – whose three core values are int
egrity\, authenticity and openness – our club will use networking\, coll
aboration and sharing to explore the stories of communities here in Liverp
ool. We believe this is a generous foundation on which to share perspectiv
es\, learn from each other\, and create new narratives and understanding a
bout where we live.\n\nWho? You!\n\n Free to anyone who lives or works in
L1 or L8\n Beginners to intermediate level\n This is for you if you’r
e interested in experimenting with photography and writing\n Commitment t
o all workshops is desirable!\n\nSign up to our first workshop on Saturday
17 October 2020 through this eventbrite link.\n\nAny questions? Get in t
 ouch.\n\nSee you soon!
