SUMMARY:: Online: Bootle Festival of Ideas – Spaces for change
DESCRIPTION:Bootle Festival of Ideas – Spaces for change\n\nAs part of Se
fton’s year as Borough of Culture we’re running the Festival of Ideas
 – to help YOU get new ideas off the ground\n\nBOOK HERE\n\nHave you ever
looked at one of Bootle’s unloved spaces or unused buildings and though
t “I could do something with that”? Maybe you want to transform a disu
sed building into a fresh co-working space\, beautify a long neglected pas
sageway\, or turn forgotten spaces into trails for exploration or places t
o meet? Do you look wistfully at the canal\, dreaming of outdoor seating a
nd Amsterdam-esque independents?\n\nThese are places where communities hav
e gathered\; spaces with character and history. And\, im-portantly\, lots
of life left within them. With hundreds of years worth of stories found in
every brick and blade of grass\, it’s about time we told some more.\n\n
How do we use the spaces around and between our buildings? And what connec
ts A to B?\n\nWe’re looking for a raft of new ideas that local residents
want to try out in Sefton. As part of Sefton’s year as Borough of Cultu
re we’re running the Festival of Ideas – to help YOU get new ideas off
the ground.\n\nNobody expected this from 2020. It’s been a year that’
s thrown all of our assumptions up into the air\; made us rethink what we
do and why we do it\, and shown the value of community\, collective endeav
our and local resilience. We’ve had a chance to think about what works f
or us and the plac-es we live in. How can we help #BuildBackBetter and cre
ate real and lasting change in Bootle?\n\nWhether you have a dream that ha
s outgrown your box room\, or want to give a new lease of life to some lon
g forgotten areas\, we want to help transform Bootle. What would you do to
bring one of these spaces back to life?\n\nWe’ve seen people power rege
nerate neglected buildings and unremarkable walkways and waste ground. Is
there an outside area you’ve always wanted to transform? Change how we a
ll get from A to B? Wanted to open a café near that office building or ru
n a nature walk along the canal? The places and spaces around us are uniqu
e and deserve love.\n\nSo we want to hear your ideas.\n\nCome along to one
of our events and share your idea to bid for support from a funding pot o
f £6\,000\, which will help take your idea to the next stage of developme
nt.\n\nJoin us on Friday October 02 from 6pm to talk about spaces for chan
ge.\n\nSu Stringfellow\, Director of Harrison Stringfellow Architects Ltd
will be leading the session.\n\nBootle Festival of Ideas is part of the
Borough of Culture (BoC) programme. The title is awarded by the Liverpool
City Region’s Combined Authority to one of its six local authorities on
 a rotating\, annual basis\, and we’ve taken over from Wirral\, 2019’s
Borough of Culture.\n\nThe focus of Sefton’s programme is on stories –
about us\, by us\, and for us… all of us – revolving around the theme
of ‘Myths and Realities’. So join us and tell your story\, share your
idea and see what we can help you make a reality at this spring’s Festi
val of Ideas.\n\nBootle Festival of Ideas is produced by Make CIC\, a Nort
 h Liverpool-based community organisation\, and Kindred\, which supports th
 e region’s socially-trading businesses. Make supports artists\, makers a
nd small businesses with studio space\, workshop facilities and guidance s
o that people can live happy\, healthy and prosperous lives.
