SUMMARY:: Online: Black History Month 23: In Conversation with Arun Kundnan
 i
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nLocation: Online\n\nTicket price: £3 \n\nDate: October
  10\, 2023\nTime: 7:00 pm\n\n\n\n\n\nGET TICKETS\n\n\nWoW presents an in
conversation with Arun Kundnani on his new book What is Antiracism and wh
y it means Anticapitalism?\n\nFor almost a century\, liberals viewed racis
m as rooted in extremist individual beliefs. Figures like Magnus Hirschfel
d and Ruth Benedict advocated education to reduce prejudice\, birthing tod
ay’s liberal anti-racism seen in diversity training and Hollywood activi
 sm.\n\nSimultaneously\, a radical anti-racism emerged in the Global South\
, linking racism to colonialism and capitalism. Thinkers like C.L.R. James
\, Claudia Jones\, and Frantz Fanon illuminated these connections\, a pers
pective adopted by Martin Luther King.\n\nToday\, despite white liberals c
onfronting their whiteness\, structural oppression persists\, as Arun Kund
nani’s work highlights.\n\nThis narrative history dissects these anti-ra
cism strands. Neoliberalism’s rise revealed that combating racism necess
itates challenging its capitalist roots.\n\nArun Kundnani has been active
in antiracist movements in Britain and the United States for three decades
. He is a former editor of the journal Race &amp\; Class and was a scholar
-in-residence at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture at the
New York Public Library. The Guardian has described him as “one of Brit
ain’s best political writers.” He is the author of What is Antiracism
?\, The Muslims are Coming!\, and The End of Tolerance. He lives in Phila
delphia.\n\n*These are difficult times. We know some people may struggle t
o afford full price tickets. If you would like to attend this event but ca
n’t afford to\, please contact info@writingonthewall.org.uk. All quer
ies will be treated in confidence.
