SUMMARY:Museum Of Liverpool: Museum of Liverpool: Beyond the Beat
DESCRIPTION:29 Jun 2024—3 Nov 2024\nPeter Kaye Photography\nExplore the m
usic scene in Liverpool’s bustling 1960s Merseybeat era in this display
of 16 previously unseen photographs\nThe display showcases some of the ban
ds that clamoured to play Liverpool’s music scene in the wake of The Bea
tles’ monumental fame.\nFollowing the stratospheric success of The Beatl
es\, musicians would flock to play the city's music venues on Mathew Stree
t and beyond\, soaking up the success and legacy of Liverpool’s famous s
ons\, including some of history’s most influential American blues artist
s.\nFront and centre at their shows were an army of photographers\, includ
ing Bill Connell and Les Chadwick from Liverpool studio Peter Kaye Photogr
aphy. The company documented the performances and crowds that danced to th
e beat of the clubs during the swinging 60s.\nThis small selection of phot
ographs\, taken from a huge archive by Peter Kaye Photography\, captures t
he essence of the Merseybeat scene. The energy of the clubs\, the enthusia
sm of the crowds and the power of the musicians to captivate their audienc
es.\nArtists from rock and blues backgrounds including The Yardbirds\, The
Hollies\, John Lee Hooker and The Spencer Davis Group feature alongside l
ocal artists who performed during the 1960s.\nBeyond the Beat is on displa
y and free to visit in Museum of Liverpool’s Skylight gallery.\nPlaylist
\nFind out what made this such a vibrant music scene - have a listen to mu
sic by the artists and bands featured in the photos on our playlist\n\n\n
 	\nSpotify playlist.\n\n \nYouTube playlist\n\n\nCan you identify the mys
tery bands?\nAlongside the famous faces and local bands\, two unknown Live
rpool acts feature in the display and our curators are keen to find out mo
re about both bands. The unknown bands are both thought to be local musici
ans from Liverpool\, but not much more is known about either group.\nMuseu
m curators are asking people with information about either of the unknown
bands on display to email beyondthebeat@liverpoolmuseums.org.uk.
