SUMMARY:World Museum: Minkisi\, Slavery and Colonialism - An International
 Slavery Museum Intervention
DESCRIPTION:Artist LR Vandy's sculpture Pomp &amp\; Circumstance is display
 ed alongside a collection of Minkisi figures.\nA new intervention in World
  Museum by curators from International Slavery Museum explores the links b
 etween transatlantic slavery and colonial collections from 26 February.\n\
 nSet among a display of 19th century minkisi – figures or containers of
 spiritual significance from the Kongo region (in present day Angola and De
 mocratic Republic of the Congo) – LR Vandy’s artwork\, ‘Pomp &amp\;
 Circumstance’ (2019)\, creates space for a new dialogue on these deeply
 symbolic objects.\n\nVisitors are invited to share their own thoughts and
 insight\, inspired by the intervention\, which will help inform the shape
 of new displays for International Slavery Museum\, due to reopen in 2028.\
 n\nThe display is part of ongoing work to explore how transatlantic slaver
 y and its legacies relates beyond the International Slavery Museum to venu
 es and collections across National Museums Liverpool.
