Elizabeth Grima aka LittleLiz is originally from Warrington but has lived in St Helens for several years. Local places, especially those where trees are found, feature in many of her paintings Victoria Park being a favourite source of inspiration. She invites you on a visual journey with her latest solo exhibition, ‘Painted Pathways’, happening from January 5th to February 27th at the Millennium Centre, Corporation Street, St Helens, Merseyside. The centre is situated next to the bus station and close to the train station. There is a car park just across the road from the main entrance.
A collection of over 30 original artworks, are on display. Each inspired by the concept of pathways—a motif that weaves through Elizabeth’s creative process and invites viewers into her world.
“Pathways are a great way to draw people into my paintings,” Elizabeth shares.
Her works, which often depict trees and sunlight, are born from her walks, where she captures the beauty of her surroundings through sketches and photographs, some of which are then used as starting points for paintings.
Her art goes beyond mere representation though.
“I like to create the feeling of a place or moment in time, not just execute exact copies of what I see,” she explains. While most pieces in the exhibition are rooted in reality, others are entirely fictitious, created from her imagination to reflect a thought or mood.
Elizabeth hopes that visitors will spot places they know in some of her works and, perhaps, even embark on their own emotional journey. “I want people to enjoy the journey my art takes them on,” she says.
The exhibition is free to explore and spans two levels of the Millennium Centre. You can find the paintings displayed on the ground floor, including in and around Café Millais, as well as upstairs on the first floor. There is a lift available or you can take the stairs.
Whether you’re seeking tranquility, reflection, joy or inspiration, Painted Pathways could be just what’s needed to uplift your mood.
