DESCRIPTION:Pierce Starre’s new video performance for Independents Bienni
 al 2021 ‘Scrutiny’ will premiere on Metal Liverpool’s Instagram TV o
 n Saturday 5th June at 7pm. \n\nThe performance starts 7pm on instagram: 
 @metalliverpool\n\n‘Scrutiny’ is an 8 minute piece that explores inequ
 ality within the framework of Pierce’s own lived experience. The work co
 mbines symbolism of regality and abundance with the reality of domestic li
 fe and poverty\; the act of eating gravy comes from the meal Pierce’s fa
 mily served when they were struggling to make ends meet. The soundtrack de
 constructs Handel’s ‘Zardok the Priest’\, the Queen’s coronation a
 nthem.\n\nScrutiny combines symbolism of regality and abundance with the r
 eality of domestic life and poverty. The soundtrack\, created by Daz Disle
 y\, deconstructs Handel’s ‘Zardok the Priest’\, the Queen’s corona
 tion anthem. The Queen’s Ruby Jubilee state banquet of 1992 is playfully
  re-interpreted into a ’council estate banquet’.\n\nThe celebrations a
 t the time were relatively low profile after the Queen acknowledged public
  perception for the royals was at an all time low\, leading her to acknowl
 edge in her speech that ‘we are all part of the same fabric of our natio
 nal society and that scrutiny\, by one part of another\, can be just as ef
 fective if it is made with a touch of gentleness\, good humour and underst
 anding’. 1992 was also four years in to the Section 28 period of law whi
 ch prohibited the ‘promotion of homosexuality’ by local authorities. T
 he red dress in this performance\, made by Pierce’s partner\, represents
  a dress that Pierce was prohibited from wearing at school\, a possible re
 sult of this law. \n\nThe performance will be followed by a filmed intervi
 ew between Pierce Starre and the Director of Independents Biennial 2021 Pa
