 tember– 7th November 2026\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo celebrate the centenary 
 of the popular Liverpool artist Julia Carter Preston (1926-2012)\, five Li
 verpool venues are staging exhibitions on her life and work\, which is exp
 lored in an accompanying symposium.The programme includes exhibitions at t
 he Bluecoat\, Bluecoat Display Centre\, Liverpool Hope University’s Crea
 tive Campus\, the Walker Art Gallery and the University of Liverpool’s V
 ictoria Gallery &amp\; Museum. Together they showcase works from major pub
 lic and private collections\, archive material and contemporary responses 
 by leading sgraffito artists\, highlighting Carter Preston’s artistic le
 gacy and the continuing vitality of the technique.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKnown 
 for her distinctive ceramics\, Julia was recognised for reviving the techn
 ique of sgraffito in the twentieth century. This involves scratching throu
 gh a coating of clay slip on a surface to reveal an underlying layer\, cre
 ating contrasting decoration.\n\n\nWe have curated a very special exhibiti
 on bringing together a striking selection of Julia’s work (on loan from 
 local collectors) alongside leading contemporary sgraffito artists\,\n\nIn
 cluding-\nBeth Elliott\, Russell Martin\, Sue Mundy\, James &amp\; Till
 a Waters\, Lara Scobie\, Tiffany Scull\, Chris Turrell\, Anastasia Zam
 a\, Molly Attrill\, Jo Walker\, Ali Tomlin and Judit Esztergomia\;\n\
 n\nThe show expands the conversation into surface and pattern with selecte
 d printmakers and jewellers exploring etching\, texture and intricate desi
