DESCRIPTION:Thursday 5 February / 1pm – 3.30pm (30 mins slots) / Open Eye
  Gallery and online\n\nbook your spot\n\nOpen Eye Gallery is hosting anoth
 er special hybrid MA Socially Engaged Photography and MA Socially Engaged 
 Art open day event\, with our partners the University of Salford.\n\nThis 
 year we are hosting 30-minute slots to meet with people interested in eith
 er our joint MA in socially engaged photography course and/ or the MA in
  socially engaged art programme\, both with the University of Salford. You
  can meet us in person in the gallery\, or you can meet a member of the te
 am online if this is more accessible for you.\n\nYou will get to speak to 
 one of the members of the team:\n\n 	Sarah Fisher\, Open Eye Gallery’s d
 irector\;\n 	Liz Wewiora\, Head of social practice and programme leader of
  the courses\;\n 	Anna Wijnhoven\, a recent socially engaged photography g
 raduate and new project developer for children and young people at the RHS
  (Royal Horticultural Society)\;\n 	Rachel Holliday\, freelance artist and
  socially engaged art graduate.\n\nAs we expand our collaborations with th
 e MA art and design programmes at the University of Salford we are excited
  to welcome people interested in both courses along to hear more about the
 m from one of the team.\n\nHow to book\n\nOnce you have booked your ticket
  on Eventbrite\, we will be in touch to confirm your 30-minute slot\, whet
 her you want to meet in person or online\, and which of the courses you’
 d like to discuss.\n\nMore about the courses\n\nSocially Engaged Photograp
 hy \n\nYou will work with active practitioners\, community groups and aca
 demics to rethink the role of photography in society today\, to develop yo
 ur creative practice and your professional profile.\n\nThe course will giv
 e students support in producing creative projects with both arts and non-a
 rts commissioners in mind\, exploring how to create socially engaged art t
 hat is meaningful to both audiences and participants. Students will develo
 p and deliver live projects with partners working in health\, youth\, comm
 unity and justice\, all embedded within a critically engaged and ethical f
 ramework.\n\nThey will provide professional practice surgeries\, from unde
 rstanding legal\, ethical and safeguarding frameworks\, to developing your
  professional profile and will have some joint teaching sessions with the 
 Socially Engaged Practice students.\n\nYou will have opportunities to enga
 ge directly with national debates and Open Eye Gallery’s national networ
 k for socially engaged photographic practice.\n\nSocially Engaged Art \n\
 nDo you want to empower communities through the power of art? Similar to o
 ur Socially engaged photography MA\, the Socially engaged arts prorgramme 
 seeks to do this\, through collaboration and participation with people\, t
 hrough co-authored and co-produced activities that helps to define an envi
 ronment\, attitude or experience. Often the process of these interactions 
 is as important as the visual artworks produced.\n\nStudents will be suppo
 rted to consider pressing social issues such as inclusion\, mental health\
 , homelessness\, regeneration and sustainability amongst many others to en
 able students of this course to explore a wider variety of real-life scena
 rios. Students will then be supported to apply an artistic approach and un
 derstanding to developing conversations and debate around these areas with
  relevant stakeholders within a community.\n\nWe are also interested to he
 ar from individuals who may be exploring curatorial or producing roles wit
 hin social practice as well as artist delivery roles.\n\nYou’ll work wit
 h communities or projects that have a story to share\, from youth clubs an
 d local organisations\, to cultural groups and institutions\, such as ours
 elves here at Open Eye Gallery\, the Turnpike Gallery in Leigh and many mo
 re. You will use your arts practice to explore these compelling stories th
 rough the development of participatory events within this community\, befo
 re potentially disseminating these findings to a wider populace\, in a var
 iety of forms. You’ll also gain an arts education relating to social iss
 ues\, learning to use research and reflection to guide your creative proce
 ss and create art that shines a spotlight on causes that matter.
