DESCRIPTION:Building relationships with contemporary Chinese artists in the
  UK symposium\n\nFollowed by exhibition opening of work created by John Mo
 ores Painting Prize China winners on residency at Liverpool School of Art 
 and Design\n\n19 th July 2018\n\nLecture room 1 and Public Exhibition Spac
 e\n\nThis afternoon symposium will present several speakers from UK instit
 utions currently defying industry norms and establishing meaningful relati
 onships with Chinese contemporary artists. Though the Chinese art market i
 s the second largest in the world\, British institutions are not\, as a ru
 le\, investing resources in collecting or exhibiting art from the region\,
  and few curators have in depth knowledge of Chinese contemporary art. Our
  speakers will discuss their projects to cultivate and promote Chinese art
 \, and the long-term issues\, benefits and research questions that have em
 erged from these collaborations.\n\n1pm ‘This is Shanghai’ tour at Ope
 n Eye Gallery led by Thomas Dukes\, Open Eye Gallery\ncurator.\n\n3 – 3.
 20 Tracy Marshall\, Open Eye Gallery co-Director. Discussion of ‘This is
  Shanghai’\nexhibition.\n\n3.20 – 3.40 Lindsay Taylor\, Curator\, Univ
 ersity of Salford Art Collection. ‘Building a collection of Chinese cont
 emporary art within the UK.’\n\n3.40 – 4.00 Tiffany Leung\, Centre for
  Chinese Contemporary Art\, Manchester. Discussion of\nthe Centre’s work
  with contemporary Chinese artists.\n\n4.00 – 4.30 The five winners of t
 he John Moores Painting Prize will discuss their work\, and\nhow they will
  pursue UK opportunities in the near future.\n\n4.30 – 5.30 pm Reception
  for the exhibition of John Moores Painting Prize China winners\nwork crea
 ted at Liverpool School of Art and Design.
