SUMMARY:Quakers Meeting House: Liverpool Poetry Space: An Evening with Seá
 n Street
DESCRIPTION:\n\nAn evening of poetry &amp\; reflection from writer\, broadc
 aster and teacher Seán Street\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBOOK HERE\n\n\n\n\nSeán S
treet has 15 poetry publications. He will be reading poems from his recent
collections with Shoestring Press\, Journey into Space\, and Running Ou
t of Time.\n\nChristopher Somerville\, writing in The Times\, summed up hi
s poetry thus: “Street unearths loss\, memory and redemption from Engli
sh terrain like few other poets.”\n\nProse includes works on Gerard Manl
ey Hopkins and the Dymock Poets\, as well as several studies of sound poet
ics\, the latest of which\, Wild Track: Sound\, Text and the Idea of Bird
song was published by Bloomsbury in a new paperback edition in May 2025.
The book was a finalist in the Environmental Science Prose Awards\, 2024.\
n\nPrevious prose on sound includes The Poetry of Radio (2013)\, The Me
mory of Sound (2015) and The Sound of a Room (2020) published by Routle
dge. He has also written a trilogy of books on sound aesthetics for Palgra
ve (2017-19).\n\nHe has worked in radio for more than 50 years and is emer
itus professor at Bournemouth University.\n\nOf his poetry George Szirtes
has written:\n\n‘Seán Street is a poet who well understands both the po
wer and the ephemerality of the spoken word\, and how “while it would be
always unforgettable / it would be forever unrecoverable”. That is the
narrow ledge of perception that not just we humans\, but the natural world
itself is perched on. His recent work condenses a lifetime of celebratory
and acute listening. It is that which gives his quiet yet clear voice its
bindingly melancholy yet joyful power.’\n\nFor further information abou
