SUMMARY:Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral: Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral
Plateau: Liverpool Biennial 2018: Beautiful World Where Are You?
DESCRIPTION:Five bench-like sculptures can be found on the plateau behind t
he Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral. For this new commission\, Ryan Gande
r dissected a model of architect Frederick Gibberd’s modernist cathedra
l into a series of simple ‘building blocks’. The blocks were then reas
sembled into different configurations by schoolchildren from Liverpool: J
amie Clark\, Phoebe Edwards\, Tianna Mehta\, Maisie Williams and Josh
ua Yates. The maquettes that Gander and the children created have been rep
roduced on a larger scale to produce this new public seating arrangement w
ithin the cathedral grounds. This presentation is part of a larger project

Kickstarter\n\n\n\nThe Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the Kin
g was designed by architect Frederick Gibberd and opened in 1967. The Grad
e II listed building has become a Brutalist icon and is a symbol of Cathol
ic life\, worship and community in the city. Along with daily masses and s
ervices\, the Cathedral runs a diverse programme of concerts\, exhibitions
  and special events.
