SUMMARY:Liverpool Cathedral: Liverpool Cathedral: In Conversation with Katy
a Buchatska\, the Artist Behind Izyum to Liverpool
DESCRIPTION:An evening with Ukrainian artist Katya Buchatska as she talks i
n detail about her powerful installation 'Izyum to Liverpool' with Elisa N
ocente\, Cultural Programme Manager at Liverpool Cathedral.\n\nIzyum to Li
verpool is a poignant multi-channel video installation\, which depicts the
one-way journey of escape that has been taken by many Ukrainians since th
e full-scale Russian invasion began.\n\nIn her first UK exhibition\, Bucha
tska delivers a heart-wrenching reminder of why the Eurovision Song Contes
t is being held in Liverpool instead of Ukraine. Commissioned as part of t
he EuroFestival cultural programme\, which runs from 1-14 May in the build
up to the Eurovision Song Contest\, Izyum to Liverpool takes visitors on
a captivating journey through the current Ukrainian landscape.\n\nFilmed i
n real-time on a 24 hour rail journey from Izyum in Eastern Ukraine to the
border with Poland\, the installation gives visitors a sense of travellin
g on a train carriage out of Ukraine.\n\nIllustrating just how quickly nor
mal life can change\, Izyum to Liverpool shines a light on liberated Ukrai
nian cities\, where buildings have been destroyed by bomb shelling and art
illery fire\, as well as offering views of apparently stiller Western citi
es. The incredibly moving artwork pays homage to the spirit and resilience
of the Ukrainian people.\n\nIzyum to Liverpool at Liverpool Cathedral run
s until 19 May and is free to experience.
