 tival 2020 Artist-in-residence\, Lisa Luxx was due to present a new thea
 tre work during this year’s festival.\n\nCommissioned by LAAF and funded
  through the Al-Omar Family\, Eating the Copper Apple will now premiere 
 in Liverpool at a later point.\n\nLisa will be in conversation with Anahi
 d Kassabian\, Mishaal Omar and Diyan Zora who have each been working c
 losely with her to develop the work. This discussion will talk about the d
 evelopment of the work\, the commissioning process and the relationship be
 tween artist and mentor\, exploring the value of mentorship to an individu
 al artist.\n\nSynopsis\n\nEating the Copper Apple\, is a soul-searching t
 ale of identity\, shaped by the writer’s life.\n\nWeaving together polit
 ics and dreams\, loss and fulfilment\, this is a one-woman verse play abou
 t adoption and the mixed-heritage body.\n\nTaking you on a voyage from Wes
 t Yorkshire to the borders of Syria through family\, romance and culture\,
  it asks the big question: how do we become who we are?\n\nAt times funny\
 , and at others philosophical\, this profound piece of theatre by prize-wi
 nning performance poet\, Lisa Luxx\, examines the tremendous impact of dis
 placement on how we see ourselves.\n\n\n\nLisa Luxx\n\nA queer poet\, writ
 er and activist of British Syrian heritage\, Lisa Luxx writes to agitate a
 nd inquire\; to cast spells\; to offer medicine for a world in urgency. Pu
 blished in journals\, newspapers and anthologies internationally\, she has
  also been broadcast on channels such as BBC Radio 4\, VICE TV\, TEDx\, an
 d ITV. One of Diva Magazine’s ‘top four poets to look out for’. Luxx
  was winner of the Out-Spoken Prize for Performance Poetry 2018 and nomine
 e for the Arts Foundation Fellowship in Poetry. She splits her time betwee
 n England and Lebanon.\n\nAudiences may remember Lisa Luxx from last year
 ’s festival\, where she performed alongside Dana Dajani and Amina Atiq i
 n They Write the Shadows into Light. The festival team had already decide
 d by the time we welcomed Lisa to Liverpool that we wanted to work with he
 r and bring a new work to LAAF.  She has also been back to Liverpool sinc
 e then\, performing at A Lovely Word.\n\nLuxx’s poetry\, essays and opin
 ions are published internationally in newspapers\, magazines and anthologi
 es. She has lectured on the philosophy of language in mental health for TE
 Dx\, spoken on panels about refuge at the Tate Modern and given a talk on
