SUMMARY:RIBA North: LightNight 2018: RIBA North: It Will Never Work
DESCRIPTION:IT WILL NEVER WORK: 25 YEARS OF URBAN SPLASH 1993 – 2018\n17:
 00 – 22:00\n\nRIBA North\n\nExhibitions\, Family Friendly\n\nIt Will Nev
er Work is an unplanned trip from Madchester to Brexit via Easyjet and dri
verless cars\, with a quick history of unorthodox thinking and a few build
ings along the way.  In their first 25 years\, Urban Splash have won over
40 RIBA Awards.\n\nThese awards cross the spectrum from Small Projects to
the Stirling Prize Shortlist and cover refurbishment and new-build on res
idential\, leisure and commercial schemes. Special awards acknowledge the
 company’s commitment to Sustainability\, Housing and Conservation.\n\nUr
ban Splash profess to have started without a plan\, purposefully ignoring
advice and routinely rejecting accepted development processes. At every st
ep ‘it will never work’ has been a call to action rather than a discou
ragement.\n\nIn this exhibition we explore the RIBA Award-winning projects
\, in the context they were created and against the specific challenges an
d opportunities of the day.\n\nWe try to understand what\, in the Urban Sp
lash approach\, connects all these projects and cuts across the immediate
context to form a consistent body of work and essential ethos.\n\nLightNig
