SUMMARY:Fort Perch Rock: Landlines Studio: ‘Black Rock And Other Wonders
’ – Flags of myth and memory
DESCRIPTION:An Independents Biennial Exhibition\n\n‘Black Rock And Other
Wonders’ – Flags of myth and memory\nLandlines Studio\n\nSpanning the
flagpoles at Fort Perch Rock\, Landlines Studio present a series of eight
flags\, each one a signal from the shore\, shaped by the stories\, texture
s\, and tides of New Brighton. Created using natural pigments gathered fro
m the fort itself\; sandstone\, rust\, brick dust and burnt wood\, the fla
gs carry the colours and materials of place. Through mark-making and abstr
action\, the work draws on local myths and half-remembered histories\, sto
ries passed down\, weathered by time and memory. Taking inspiration from t
he semaphore signals once flown at Bidston Hill\, the flags reimagine thes
e acts of communication\, transforming old messages through contemporary s
torytelling.\n\n\nAbout Landlines Studio\n\nThrough the marrying of their
individual creative practices\, visual artists Angela Stringer and Nicky P
errin create site specific mixed media artworks which are grounded in plac
e\, thanks to their collective use of natural earth pigments and botanical
dyes.\n\nEngaging with their local Wirral environment and beyond\, gat
hering raw materials such as rocks\, soil\, clay and botanical matter\, th
ey hand process these into fine pigments\, natural dyes and paint\, and la
yer them over rust prints made with discarded objects.\n\nWeaving in th
e stories of a place\, acknowledging its history and significance\, the wo
rk serves as a vehicle to consider heritage\, sustainability and wellbeing
whilst establishing both a physical and metaphorical connection to the na
tural world. Their work is a conversation with the land\, the past\, the s
easons and each other.\n\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nAbout Fort Perch Rock:\n\n&nbsp\;\n
\nFort Perch Rock is a coastal defence battery built between 1825 and 1829
to protect the Port of Liverpool. The Fort is now home to a number of per
manent maritime and aviation based museum displays\, frequent guest exhibi
tions and cultural events.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Fort plays host to cultural ev
ents throughout the year. Take a look at our events dairy and plan your vi
 sit.\n\n\n\n\n\n
