SUMMARY:Lady Lever Art Gallery: Lady Lever Art Gallery: Reflections
DESCRIPTION:The Lady Lever Art Gallery is set to welcome an exhibition crea
ted by Wirral community groups\, including early years children to adults.
\n\nReflections\, runs from Friday 18 March to Sunday 5 June 2016\, and fe
atures a diverse selection of works including paintings\, prints\, ceramic
and textile art. A variety of groups worked closely with the Lady Lever a
nd local artists\, including the Singh Twins\, who encouraged exploration
of the Gallery’s unique collections and helped create work reflecting wh
at they had seen.\n\nThere was also a special focus on the 18th Century po
rtraits of the newly refurbished South End galleries\, due to open to the
public 25 March 2016.\n\nThe Singh Twins delivered workshops with St John
Plessington School said: “Primarily we wanted to create a workshop that
engaged students with and made connections between our own practice and th
e Lady Lever collections. We chose to focus on the theme of portraiture\,
that was not only central to our own work but also relevant to the range o
f objects on display at Lady Lever – including ceramics\, paintings\, an
d sculpture.\n\n“Students were also free to draw on any of the conventio
ns or portraiture employed in our own art. They were encouraged to think a
bout ways of expressing something about their own heritage\, personality a
nd identity as well any other aspects of wider culture\, society and the e
nvironment with which they identified or were interested in exploring.\n\n
“That is\, to view portraits in their widest sense - not just as represe
nting the physical likeness of someone but a much wider narrative.”\n\nS
usan Lunt\, teacher from South Wirral High School said this of her student
s working on the exhibition: "It was such a pleasure for South Wirral High
School to be involved in this exciting opportunity to support the Lady Le
ver Art Gallery as they redevelop their 18th Century portraiture gallery.\
n\n“The students thoroughly enjoyed their workshop with the visiting pri
nt artist Hannah Fray\, and have learnt new and exciting techniques that t
hey can now use with etching printmaking.\n\n“We are now looking forward
to seeing our artwork on display in the exhibition spaces as well as seei
ng the newly refurbished gallery spaces\, especially the portraiture room
of course!"\n\nThis exhibition showcases the talent that lies within the W
irral community\, while also highlighting how the Lady Lever Art Gallery
’s collections can inspire all.\n\nA series of adult talks and family ev
ents will take place at the Lady Lever Art Gallery with Project Assistant\
, Siobhan Cull and the Education Team. For more information about the even
ts\, please visit the website www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/ladylever\n\n&nb
