SUMMARY:John Lennon Art and Design Building: John Lennon Art & Design Build
ing: Snapshot 08: La Galera by Mariana Sequera Dorronsoro
DESCRIPTION:Snapshot 08: La Galera by Mariana Sequera Dorronsoro\n\nRecepti
on Corridor\, John Lennon Art and Design Building\, Liverpool School of Ar
 t and Design.\n\nFebruary 10\, 2025 – March 10\, 2025\nMonday - Friday\,
9:00am – 5:00pm\n\n--\n\nSnapshot presents Snapshot 08: La Galera by Ma
riana Sequera Dorronsoro. MA Fine Art student and artist\, Mariana\, uses
her practice to reconnect with her family’s tribal heritage of the Venez
uelan Jira Jaras\, through the exploration of Indigenous methodologies\, A
gnes Varda’s gleaning approach\, and Assemblage Philosophy.\n\nHer multi
-disciplinary approach incorporates foraged materials and gardening techni
ques\, drawing inspiration from childhood stories told to her by her great
-great grandmother. These are used to convey practices of traditional trib
al protection magic and evoke ideas of Indigenous resurgence and reconcili
ation. The project aims to bring attention to the importance of ancestral
protection\, to guard stories at risk of being forgotten and to preserve t
he legacy of Mariana’s people\, whose existence was nearly erased follow
ing Spanish colonisation.\n\nThrough this edition of Snapshot\, she is int
erested in exploring methods of display\, looking at how to best present t
he materials and research in a way that most effectively reflects its cult
ural significance and thematic depths.\n\n--\n\nCuratorial Team for this e
 dition:\nFrancesca Fryer\nSophie Donovan\nJamie Newall\nOlivia Neill\n\n--
\n\nSnapshot is a permanent display programme of sequentially changing cre
ative outputs. It provides an impression of each participant’s practice
located in a liminal space in the School\, where visitors spend only fleet
ing moments whilst travelling to other spaces or waiting to enter classes.
\n\nThe project is the result of an ongoing open call to all visiting rese
archers and practitioners\, staff and students of all levels on all progra
mmes at Liverpool School of Art and Design.\n\nIt presents incomplete\, tr
ansitory views of research-and-practice-in-progress\; a window into a brie
f moment in time of a given academic year. The displays are selected based
on aesthetic criteria of how to best animate the space they occupy\, proj
ecting forwards in time the potential each work holds.\n\nAs the year prog
resses a living archive will develop on the concrete pillar next to each p
air of vitrines\, providing information about past and current displays.\n
\n--\nDeveloped by Dr James Schofield\, Dr Hana Leaper and Dr Christine Ey
ene (Exhibition Research Lab)\, and managed by students from the MA Exhibi
 tion Studies programme.\n--
