SUMMARY:The World of Glass: Jacques Verkade & Callan Waldron Hall: New Age
 Memorial Service&#x2122\;
DESCRIPTION:An Independents Biennial Exhibition\n\nNew Age Memorial Service
 &#x2122\;\nJacques Verkade and Callan Waldron-Hall\, 2025\n\nInfinity isn
 ’t what it used to be. It’s better.\n\nVerkade and Waldron-Hall’s in
 stallation playfully investigates ideas of digital personae\, legacy\, fea
 r and consumerism within an imagined product – a purchasable digital aft
 erlife – pushed by a sinister corporation.\n\nFollowing their 2023 colla
 borative project\, say when you can feel it\, which investigated ASMR\, d
 igital intimacy and hyper-proximity\, New Age Memorial Service&#x2122\;
 combines writing – through obituary\, elegy\, marketing and contractual
 agreement – with 3D-animated surreal films to explore a speculative worl
 d in which we can purchase ‘digital echoes’ – avatars that preserve
 our physical traits\, personalities\, hopes and dreams. Fragmented animati
 ons reflect hybridised lives\, overlapping between real and digital worlds
  and peering into two customers’ aspirations and worries to present impr
 ecise yet authentic portraits of who they were\, both on and offline\, pro
 mpting us to think: would I pay for this?\n\nThe animations have an inter
 net-core\, nostalgic aesthetic\, seeming both friendly and familiar\, but
 also uncanny and uncomfortable\, suggesting that perhaps we might look bac
 k too fondly on old memories\, and questioning what form that might take w
 ere those old memories to stick around – forever.\n\nThe installation is
  framed by inevitable corporate speak\, from overly-targeted marketing\, t
 o incessantly long and verbose terms and conditions. Language flits betwee
 n friendly\, austere and sardonic\; it’s unclear if the corporation’s
 offer is truly something we should want\, or if our afterlives might becom
 e another marketable product.\n\nNew Age Memorial Service&#x2122\; invite
 s us to question if\, and how\, we want to be remembered. It challenges th
 e value of legacy\, and asks us to consider our approach to purchasing and
  consuming.\n\nWe can’t wait to spend eternity with you.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nA
 bout The World of Glass:\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThere are many galleries
 to view on your trip to The World of Glass. The Godfrey Pilkington Gallery
  in the centre of the building houses our temporary exhibition programme.
 See the What’s on  page for more information.  The Glass Gallery in th
 e museum houses our resident glass collection. Pieces from the Origins of
 Glass to Contemporary glass will amaze you. The Now Gallery showcases fact
 s about glass\, and also developments in St Helens happening now. The Past
  gallery will take you on a tour through Victorian St Helens witnessing th
 e lives of those who lived there.\n\n\n\n\n
