SUMMARY:Bluecoat Display Centre: IB18: Bluecoat Display Centre: Rebecca Gou
 ldson Toolkit installation
DESCRIPTION:Rebecca Gouldson Toolkit installation\n\nsupported by Granada F
oundation &amp\; Cass Art\n\nFor the month of July\, our window will be br
ought to life with a unique installation by Rebecca Gouldson. This is very
generously supported by Granada Foundation and local art supplies retail
er\, Cass Art.\n\nLocal printmaker Karen Edwards will lead a monoprint wo
rkshop inspired by Rebecca’s installation on Sunday 15th July at Cass A
rt’s School Lane store\, click here for further details.\n\nTOOLKIT\n\
nTools for looking and other curious objects\n\nA window is a tool\; it al
lows us to look out\, creating a frame around our view and it allows us to
look in\, providing a glimpse of what’s inside. In a similar way\, Arti
sts and Makers use view-finders of all shapes and sizes as frames. These f
rames act as tools for ‘looking’ as part of their creative process\; t
o gather inspiration and to find and select parts of the world that intere
st them.\n\nThe idea for this window installation was initially inspired b
y a mirror made from metal in Bristol Museum’s Egyptian collection\, its
once reflective surface was encrusted with thousands of years of patina.
A mirror is a view-finder because it frames a part of the world that it re
flects. The collection of objects in this window installation grew as I ex
plored the idea of view-finders as creative tools.\n\nThese objects hang w
aiting to be used\, to have their functions tested and explored\, infused
with a sense of potential activity. At the same time\, their aged and pati
na covered surfaces suggest a story of a past life\, allowing us to imagin
 e their former use.
